Spun Around Over Roundabout in the Dark

I'm not really sure what happened exactly, but I was driving my Dad's VW Passat pretty fast down a country road. It was really dark and all you could see was the hedge at either side of the road lit up by the car's headlights when all of a sudden there was this stupid mound in the middle of the road, which I later discovered is a roundabout at a crossroads.
I remember seeing the mound and hitting it, but after that I was suddening facing back the same way I came looking at the mound from the other side. My Dad Passat was smashed up a bit down the left hand side and developed other faults after that, even when it had been "fixed" and never did properly recover. I, however, escaped without so much as a bruise, but had a few shocking flashbacks for a few days.
