I loved my little Ford Probe. It got me from point A to point B with little to no trouble. Good gas mileage, just sporty enough to attract the girls. I loved it. Now I got ridiculed for its lack of safety features but after this accident no one was saying a word.
I was traveling on Double Bridge RD which is fairly rural and in the backwoods when I came up on this nasty little curve. I guess I was going too fast as this is where I met my fate about halfway thru the turn. What was my fate? Well it was a 2000 Dodge Ram 3500 Dually with a nice tow package trucking along this tiny road carrying a Kabota tractor and trailer.
I didn't have a chance in the world! This monstrous thing literally ran over the front of my car with its front wheel being firmly planted on my face. The radiator of the Dodge ruptured and its contents flooded out all over my left arm. The tire, no doubt, crushed part of my face. It was bad enough that I lost vision in my left eye.
That wasn't the end of it though. I suffered two broken femurs in addition to a crushed right ankle. With my skull being crushed as it was I suffered slight brain damage, but only minimally thank God. I had three inch bone spikes pulled from my brain. The ménages was ruptured and I had to undergo a spinal tap.
Three months I spent in the hospital recovering. I was unable to walk due to dueling casts and the broken ankle. Metal rods were placed in both legs to repair the bones and to offer support.
I had, to count, three facial reconstructions which is like being in the accident all over again after the pain pills wear off. Titanium mesh was used in my face, but that wasn't received well by my body so they had to use what was left of my skull and split it in half to piece it all together to what is now the front of my face.
The doctors gave me no chance at all. They went so far as to say I wouldn't live, that the trauma was just too severe. I only had about a pint of blood remaining in my body when I wound at the hospital. Later, after I proved them wrong and lived, they said I would have severe brain damage and that if I could move or speak it'd be a miracle. Well - here I am. I can move and speak, usually at the same time (a little joke!).
I had an IQ test done several weeks before the accident and I was tested at 148. After the accident I retook the test with different results coming in at 129. A considerable difference but not even remotely close to what they predicted.
I'm pretty healthy. Bones healed up nicely. I have some pain time to time depending on the weather conditions. I'm currently in college going for my psychology degree. I'm thankful that I have this second chance!
