Hello there, I'm Tessa. I had a serious car crash just outside of Gainesville, Florida. The car was dropped off at a garage cause I was having some performance parts installed on it in order to beef up the horse power.

After the car was done they called me up to come get it so me and my brother went to the shop to pick it up. My brother is a car guy and insisted that he had to drive the Camaro first to make sure everything was ok on it and to see how it was running with all the new parts. After some back and forth arguing I gave in and hopped into the passenger's side.

We started driving from there and about a mile from the repair shop there was this Chrystler van that was sitting in the median facing the other direction from us to take his left turn. The driver, get this, a Preacher, decided to make his left turn while we had the right of way! So his left turn cut into our path of driving.

My brother did the only thing he could: slam the brakes. We were going to fast and the Preacher was so unexpected that even slamming on the brakes didn't do a thing to help us and weren't able to stop in time. We wound up smashing his entire right fender and passenger side door with the speed at impact being roughly 55 miles per hour. At the time of the accident I didn't even realize that it was coming so this is all coming from my brother and the police as the next thing I remember is waking up in the emergency room of a hospital several towns away from where we were.

After I came to and the fog finally was lifting I had a sort of clarity about the clarity and realization of what had happened. When we slammed into the Preacher's car my head was knocked into the windshield and I was knocked out. I had some severe cuts and scrapes all over my forehead and neck. My brother was in worse shape that I was. He wound up with a broken leg, shattered ankle bone, dislocation of three of his fingers and his other ankle, two broken fingers, three broken ribs and over one hundred stitches.

Because of how his fingers and ankle were broken he'll forever have internal pins placed into them. Due to the stupidity of the Preacher my brother will never be able to walk the same again or be able to have a job where he's on his feet for extended periods of time. His entire dream since he was a kid was to have a career in law enforcement. That dream is now ruined because of this accident. He was still in the hospital two weeks after the accident undergoing several surgeries to try and repair some of his injuries.

I'm really lucky that I didn't come out of this more mangled than I was. The police said that if I had been wearing my seat belt that I probably wouldn't have been injured at all. Being that we were only testing the car out and not going too far with it I didn't bother to put it on. I knew my turn to drive was coming up in a few minutes anyway. But of course it's when you least expect something to happen or really think much of it that it does.

I've learned from this accident that seatbelts do help and that accidents are some really scary stuff so wear them!
